Local Fame: Corvette HZH vs Dallas La Madeleine.
According to the media, I “lost control of my vehicle” trying to avoid a wreck.
In reality, a Ford F150 ran a stop sign trying to shoot across Lemmon and caught the tail end of my vehicle. I noticed we were going to collide just prior to impact and accelerated trying to get the hell out of the way. Clearly, that was unsuccessful. The truck came barreling into my backend, knocking me into a crazy (thinking: “this is gonna hurt like hell”) spin — across oncoming traffic — and somehow landing backwards under the patio at La Madeleine on Lemmon Avenue.
Can I get a croissant to go? Oh, this isn’t the drive-thru.. ..righhhhhhht.
Couple items of note..
1) How was I not hit by an oncoming vehicle? Lemmon is crazy busy, and the thrashing of the HZH happened just before 11am. How lucky am I that it was 105 degrees and no one was on the patio?
2) Where did the original story that I’ve seen syndicated across the web come from? How is it no one mentions the truck that plowed into me? And where the hell did this story of the “avoided wreck” come from? On a side note, I was carted away via ambulance to Parkland Hospital before any media arrived. Amazingly, came out of the wreck without breaking any skin or bones.
3) The car was nice, but for the record — I’ve owned 2 other vettes. I’m familiar with how they drive, but couldn’t come up with much in the way of “creative solutions” when the urban assault vehicle plowed into me. I’m going to avoid Lemmon and La Madeleine for a while. Heh.
Just thought I’d clear it all up.. For the record, La Madeleine won.
